Any plans to allow yearly budgets?

Are there any plans to officially support yearly budgets in addition to monthly? I currently use tags and some of my own formulas.

I’m amazed that this isn’t supported in typical finance apps. Things like auto registration, auto/home insurance, home improvement, etc are all things where you’d save up for and set aside a certain amount but more on a yearly basis than monthly. Rollover is ok but less than ideal.

I posted a feature request for this and @1Email2RuleThemAll was working something for it but has since not responded.

I just budget the full amount in the month it occurs and leave the remaining months zero.

Do you just change the budget as it happens? How do you budget in advance if you don’t know what months those charges will be? Or something like home improvement where you budget $3000 for a year, but to be used at any point?

Yeah, I’ll change the budget as it happens, if that makes sense. Sometimes over-budget just happens and I don’t change anything.

Have you considered the Year-to-Date Comparison template, which has YTD Budget vs YTD Actual?

And Yearly Budget will have the full year Budget vs YTD Actual.

Yeah I do use those but again they’re not ideal… maybe I’m just weird but it seems like only monthly budgeting is somewhat limiting

My workaround: I put the entire annual budget for a category in January. I also assign it to a separate group called “annual” for easy distinction. I added and use the “Savings Budget” sheet to my Foundations file to see each month’s impact on the annual pool. It works great once January is over.

What I’ve always done is make a category for these and add a certain budget for each month. Like I know I’m going to budget $1200 for car maintenance across the so I just add $120 a month to that category. Eventually I have to actually use that budget but it’s not a set date that I know in advance so this works for me.

There is a community add-on that does what I think you’re trying to achieve. I use this as I prefer to budget yearly and adjust as the months pass by. Any recurring budgets (ie weekly, monthly, annually) can also be auto calculated for the year.
