I and my accountant want to sign onto my Sheets to see the details - at the same time. As opposed to “sharing screen” or “giving control to other user”. Is that possible since I need to login to my Google account. She could “maybe/conceivably” be able to do the same? What if I give her access to my Google login credentials? She’s 100% safe, not to worry.
Or…
Can someone give me an idea how she can be looking at the Sheets and making proper changes as necessary while I look and learn?
If she also has a Google account, you can share your spreadsheet with her and grant Edit access. When both of you are in the sheet simultaneously (for instance, during a meeting), you’ll be able to see each other’s changes in real time. For a smoother experience, especially when navigating between tabs, consider using a conference call platform like Zoom or Google Meet.
What I do with my clients is I have them log into Tiller/Google Sheets on their machine, and then we do a screen share via Zoom, where I often then request remote access to edit and then everybody can see what I am doing in real time. I know you said you want to avoid that, but I think that is the best way to look on while somebody else is editing and learn what they are doing. Additionally, many clients share their Google sheet with me as @brettanicus described, but I find it’s easy to get lost and not understand what changes the other is making because you only see the final change reflected, and not the writing of the formulas, clicking around, etc. That said, most of the time I do both – share edit access to the Google Sheet, and also screen share via Zoom.
I shared our sheet with my wife and we usually do a monthly “finance date” where we go through things and talk about it. With a financial planner or accountant, I second the idea of giving them view or edit access and doing a Zoom thing with a screen share so that when they make edits or suggestions, you know what they’re talking about.
Thank you Pete, I believe that is the easiest way to do this, when not done in person. I still have lots to learn but making progress. Today I meet with a bookkeeper and he will help me understand the core concepts of accounting so the pieces fall into place. Thanks for the suggestions!
