Constant issues with Reconnecting, appearing offline

When doing my weekly reconciliation this week, I am having constant issues where Google Sheets is trying to save and reporting that I am offline (I am not) and that the Tiller file is too large for Offline Use (I have not set it up to be offline). This is happening about every 5 minutes. It will successfully save the worksheet several times, then fail. When it fails I lose any work since the last save, as I have to close down and reopen the sheet.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this due to getting closer to the end of the year, and therefore the worksheet is pretty large?

Edit to update: While trying to work around the issues today, the worksheet now will not save at all, so I am dead in the water and can no longer use it. I will probably have to open a support case at this point. It’s a bummer, because I switched to Tiller in January and greatly prefer it to anything else I have ever used, but between this and issues with my primary bank, I don’t know if I will renew.

I’m just curious if you have checked your offline settings (even if you haven’t set it up to use offline)?

I have checked them. The sheet is too large to enable offline, per this:

Just for clarification, I am not offline, although Sheets thinks I am.

How about when following these instructions? (which don’t involve a specific document, like your Tiller spreadsheet)

Follow these steps to turn off the offline editing if it’s on to see if that helps with connectivity or loading issues for your Tiller powered Google Sheets.

  1. Navigate to your Google Sheets at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/?tgif=c
  2. Click the main menu icon in the upper left
  3. Click “Settings”
  4. Toggle off the Offline editing

Thanks for this. I just turned it off and am about to do my weekly reconcile, I will update here if it works or if I still have issues.

Edit: Unfortunately, this did not work. It will save a couple of times, then I get the Reconnecting… then Trying to Connect messages.

I also tried turning off uBlock and clearing cache, per research elsewhere, no joy.

Have you tried copying the entire thing into a new Google Sheet file?

@Abu5217 Marwan,

A few random debugging questions I have for you:

How big is the template?
Is your google drive visible in the task bar and file explorer?
Are you connected to the internet via wifi or ethernet to the router?
How much memory does your computer have?
How much free disk space does your computer have?

Also, @martha.rudkin Martha’s suggestion is a good one to try. A variation of her suggestion is to simply add a new template and set it up as if a new user (versus copying all the data over). Either test would help to verify if the problem exists in your existing template or physical environment.

What if he cleared his caches and browsing history?
Think that would help?

He mentioned clearing the cache. However, I notice he was also using UBlock. I suspect that was the initial trigger for the issue.

I use the uBlock Origin Chrome extension with default configuration without issue.

First of all, thanks to all for their suggestions. I was super busy at work this week and could not follow up. That said, I looked into the Google Drive Windows app and realized it wasn’t running. I rebooted and fixed a setting in that app that was trying to map a virtual drive to an existing physical drive letter. I changed that setting to use a folder for local Drive storage and, so far, everything is working!

(Fingers crossed)
