Is there a way to mark accounts as closed or inactive so that they do not show up in places like net worth reports? I want to keep the history. I saw a post for Google Sheets back in 2020, but there was no graceful solution.

I may be oversimplifying (or missing something?), but what I’ve done so far is to simply mark the account to zero (either by transfers if applicable or entering a manual balance entry), and then… on the Accounts tab… changing the Group to “Closed” and Hide to “Hide”. I’ve grouped the “closed accounts” at the bottom of the Accounts table to keep them together and out of the way.
If you hide a closed account it will also hide it from Net Worth and other historical sheets, so you will have an inaccurate net worth data set due to that data being hidden. Also, if the account is closed and you just hide it, you’ll get errors in the Google extension that it can’t connect to that account.
By “closed”, I mean the account no longer has value (zero) so it wouldn’t be included in the current “Net Worth” view or related summaries. The accounts I’ve closed so far weren’t “connected”, but if they were then I’d disconnect them. I haven’t seen any negative consequences in summaries, or my own ad-hoc data views.
p.s. I use Excel but assume it’s the same in Sheets (?).
That works fine @Robert if you really just want today’s Net Worth. These changes are for maintaining historical Net Worth, so time periods when a currently closed account was open and non-zero. Marking them Hide removes them for all time periods in the Net Worth sheet.
Thanks for the clarification! I don’t use any templates from the community but have brewed a few of my own. I imported more than 30 years of data from MS-Money and replicated some data views I didn’t want to lose… including “net worth vs time”.
I’ve mostly just created what I need so don’t fully understand how some of these settings are being implemented elsewhere. Sorry to muddy the water!
