🏆 P&L Analyzer - Profit and Loss Analyzer Solution for Google Sheets

@KyleT This sheet is amazing! Thank you. Over in this thread, you wrote that filtering by Tag is developed and Columns C&D, Row 3 have a dropdown with the title “Tag Selection”. But this option doesn’t appear for me. Assuming that I had damaged my sheets, I tried opening a new account and starting sheets from scratch, (shown here) but I still don’t see them. I am very much a newbie, so am likely missing something obvious, like how to find instructions to toggle the feature on? Will you please point me in the right direction?

Hi @holdingsrogue - Thanks, I’m glad that you are enjoying the sheet. In the other thread I was providing the bullet points of a more feature-enhanced version than the one that is available here. So you haven’t overlooked anything. It’s just that because of the significant development time, I offer this as a paid template at my website. There you can also find links to some demos of the products on Youtube. You can find a link to the site in my bio or contact me at info@sheetstopia.com and I’m happy to provide further support. These templates are fully supported by me and I am always considering improvements, so I welcome any feedback. Thank you!

Hi @KyleT. First and foremost, I love this spreadsheet. I’ve been looking for something just like this to easily be able to compare a P&L year over year. One thing I noticed, I don’t know if its an oversight on my part, but if I am comparing 2024 vs 2023 (as an example), the comparison is based on expenses that happened in 2024 and NOT any expense that happened in either year. For instance, if I had an expense in 2023 in advertising that didn’t happen in 2024, it won’t show up. To this end, it’s not a true P&L comparison because it’s leaving off any expenses that happened in 2023 that didn’t happen in 2024.

Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi @vilibara - Thanks for the feedback and glad that you are enjoying the spreadsheet! Your observation is a great one and while it’s maybe not the ideal layout for what you’re seeking, you should actually be able to see those items that are not expenses in the current year, but did occur last year. The way to do it is to check the “Show Unused Categories” in cell B6. A category that has not been used this year but had an expense last year will show the expense value in Prior Year Comparison columns to the right side (T through X). What’s not ideal about it is that those expenses might be spread out over many rows with large gaps, depending how many unused categories you have. If that’s the case, it might be desirable to see them more compactly loaded at the top. A nice feature that I could look into would be to sort those to the top or filter them in their own section.

At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, I should mention that I have a newly created “PnL Reporter” at my website which will do a multi-year comparison in a more compact view like what you might be interested in. It is paid, but I’m always thinking about ways to improve these sheets so let me know once you’ve tried my suggestion in this P&L Analyzer whether it works for you or if you have any other feedback.
