Tiller problems

Members are reporting so many problems and difficulty in using the software. Is it as problematical as members make out and is it worth using when so many problems occur

As with any internet forum, the people who (understandably) tend to speak up loudest are the people having problems rather than those who are not. In the almost one year that I have been using Tiller on a daily basis, I have only had the occasional connection error, which is almost always not Tiller’s fault and usually is resolved relatively quickly. Other than that, I have had just about zero problems. And I’ve never had as good a handle on how my money flows as I do now. YMMV, of course, but I’m a very happy customer and would recommend Tiller to anybody who is comfortable with its spreadsheet-dependent format.

On the other side of the coin, none of my syncing connections work with Tiller. This is more an issue with Canadian banks, so Tiller isn’t totally to blame for that. I’ve gotten used to entering my transactions manually (and have created an easy form to enter transactions using a script, so don’t have the hassle of worrying about syncing anymore). Having said this, Tiller is SO much more than syncing. The community and Tiller staff have taught me everything I know about budgeting spreadsheets. I find the “show and tell solutions” quite intriguing and have tried many of them out. I am becoming rather proficient in Google Sheets and I have Tiller and the Tiller community to thank for that. Also, spreadsheet budgets are wildly configurable and pretty complicated, so you must have a good understanding of spreadsheets to make it work. You’ll have to put a bit of “elbow grease” into getting what you want from a budget spreadsheet and be willing to learn how those formula’s work. Don’t give up. It’s worth the learning curve. At least it was for me, so I’ll still subscribe to Tiller even if syncing isn’t optimal right now. If you are having difficulties, the Tiller community will bend over backwards to help you out.

I am just the opposite, I only use Tiller to sync and split transactions. I do everything else with a csv export. Unfortunately I use a couple of small local banks so I am always having problems. My main bank has not synced in 10 days and it’s coming up on the end of the month so I am about to have to do a bunch of manual entries.
I tried Money for Excel and had no problems syncing my accounts. About the time I decided to drop Tiller I got a notice that Money for Excel were going away.
I know they are doing Multi-Aggreator testing now so I’m hoping things will get better.

We appreciate the effort needed here @tillerjb39 we sure hope to be able to offer improved reliability with data connections and we are always working to improve the product and experience. Thanks for sharing how you’re having to navigate to use Tiller, it’s insightful.
