Seeing transactions per category in monthly budget

I love the monthly budget tab. However, I would like to see the transactions that I incurred for each category. Really, what I’m envisioning is a column to the right of the monthly budget with a category dropdown, so I can click on “Restaurants”, for example, and it will show all the transactions in that month with the category “Restaurants”. Basically the same thing as the Transaction Tracker tab, but simpler because the only filter would be the category.
That’s one thing I loved about Mint was to see the monthly budget and click one button and see what transactions were in that month’s category. But I can’t figure out how to make that happen on the monthly budget tab in Tiller. Any help would be very appreciated!

You can use the category rollup report to do this, you can find this in the tiller money labs add on and then reports, you can set the time period that you’d like to look at and then it will generate a new sheet for how they are currently categorized. This has helped me to find some miscategorized transactions trom time to time.

One note is that once generated this report is not going to update any more, it looks at them one time and generates the report, so if you make a change to a category or something you’ll need to regenerate the report to be correct.

Thanks, Ben. Yes, I’ve used the category rollup report before, but as you said, it has to be generated in a new sheet and must be generated every time a change is made. What I’m looking for is a way to quickly see the transactions in each category so I can know, for example, why my restaurants spending was so high this month or why my auto & gas budget went over this month, etc. I’m trying to find a way to add this to the monthly budget tab so I don’t have to create a new tab/sheet for each category I’d like to look at (I like to check most of my categories every month).

Ahhh, you may want to check out the category tracker template then.

One thing i believe it does though is aggregates ones with the same description.

As @bentyre1 mentioned, there are a few ways to do this… The Category Tracker is a way to do this with live in-sheet formulas. You can also use the Category Rollup Report with the Tiller Community Solutions add-on which creates a standalone static sheet through scripts.
