Transaction Splitter prorate feature not working

In the past I have used the Transaction Splitter to split transactions between categories. If the invoice statement shows the cost breakdown pretax, I was able to type in the pretax numbers to the splitter, and a pop-up window would offer to prorate the amounts automatically. It worked pretty much as described here.

Now when I enter an amount that doesn’t match the original transaction, the popup doesn’t appear and the split amounts are not prorated. They are entered on the new rows of the Transactions sheet exactly as typed, meaning they do not account for the true cost of the transaction unless I manually prorate myself and edit them.

Ive realized the same behavior and if you click to split without reconciling the difference it will actuall change the total amount of the transaction without warning as well.

And you can no longer add your own Notes/Tags in the Transaction Splitter. I really miss the old Splitter!

Yes, I miss it too. Removing the Note and Tag fields in the splitter was a huge mistake IMO.

The new splitter is awful. Please revert.

Agree with this. They have to bring back the Note and Tag fields. Please.

So its not just me…

I have raised a support ticket. I’ll let you know what they say.

I’ve logged this as a bug, it wasn’t supposed to be removed. Hopefully we can get this resolved quickly.

However, we don’t have a plan right now to reintroduce the prorate feature when your splits don’t add up. Though it’s something we’ll consider for a future development cycle.

@kjz I’d love to know more about what’s not working for you about it so we can log that feedback for future consideration as well.

That’s great news! Thank you for the update.

We’ve pushed a fix for the Note and Tags fields missing in the splitter, that should be available again in Google Sheets @martha.rudkin @mu3484343

Definitely want prorate function back!

I’ve added this as a feature request here: https://community.tillerhq.com/t/bring-back-the-prorate-feature-for-the-splitter/27797

I’ve got it logged internally. It’s currently set as a low priority for the team and isn’t likely to be available anytime soon. However, if it gets a lot of votes (on the feature request) it’s something we’d likely increase in priority and consider for a future build cycle.

For greater context, our product team prioritizes bugs, issues, and requests based on the severity of the issue and how many customers are impacted or requesting this feature. To provide insight on expectations, issues like this may not be actioned for many months or at all if it’s not a widespread issue. That timeline is based on the team’s current existing log of issues and upcoming feature releases which is subject to change.

Thank you! Very helpful

Thank you for the update @heather. Glad to have that functionality back again.

In the meantime, anyone who wants this will have to do it manually…

Can anyone suggest a quick way to do this manually?

Splitter dysfunction:

  1. The huge buttons at the bottom consume most of the screen real estate of the splitter. Only a small fraction of the transaction data can be viewed. One must continuously scroll to see the transactions which is very inefficient.

  2. The arrow reveals the Description when clicked, but no longer allows adding Tags or a Note. This is an enormous loss. Was present in prior splitter.

  3. Cannot tab to the arrow.

The solution is simple: just make it look and function like the old splitter. The new splitter is worse in every way.

Thanks for your feedback @kjz - I’ll review with the team.

We did re-introduce this feature, it was accidentally removed.

I will jump on the old grumper boat, much as I hate to seem like a whiner. I would like to assume that the new aesthetic was deemed more important than usability here. If you have to split a transaction into more than two categories, it becomes an endeavor of lots of scrolling, clicking and WTFs.

Please, pretty please (with sugar on top), shrink the font or reduce the spacing, or eliminate the large gray box at the top of the splitter (or maybe all 3 strategies) so the eager Tiller masses (that’s us) can have harmony restored to the universe!

Tags and Notes are now again editable in the splitter, but one still cannot tab through the splitter to reach this functionality (tabbing skips the down arrow which reveals tags). It is necessary to mouse click to reveal Tags in the splitter. This is a downgrade from the previous version.

I’ve got this noted for a future enhancement and hopefully it will be something easy to implement (though no promises on the timeline).
