Vanguard feed always broken

It seems like the Vanguard feed is broken more often than not these days. Are there any plans to make that more robust so that it’s more reliable?

I’m curious if you’ve tried the Vanguard Group (Quicken) connection? At least that one seems to be working for me the last few days :man_shrugging:

I’ve just started testing Vanguard connections the last few days, so I don’t have much personal experience with them yet.

I find that often trying to refresh a 2nd time in a row it will work.

Wait, is this working at all for anyone? For three weeks now, mine has said “Refreshing” with the little spinner just spinning. (It is not refreshing.) I assumed that was due to the documented outage. Is this what other people see, or do I have a weird problem that can maybe be fixed by tech support?

Yes there is currently an outage for Vanguard. You can check in on the status on this dashboard here Institution Alerts - Google Sheets.

This is kinda my point: it’s always broken. Hence my question: are there any plans for improving it so that it is more robust?

The Vanguard Group (Quicken) connection continues to work for me, despite the institution alert.

Why are there two different methods to connect to Vanguard? And which one is correct? Is it possible to change from one method to another?

If the answer is to switch to a different connection method, then there are a lot of questions that follow here.

Yeah, I’d be curious to know why Yodlee has multiple connections to Vanguard and what the difference is … like is Intuit somehow involved in the Quicken connection and/or maybe the data is different in some way. I’ve only just started exploring it and haven’t used the main Vanguard connection (because I couldn’t connect to it). But, it does see all my accounts and all the data appears to be getting filled automatically.

I wonder if the console/system would allow you to have a connection to both and you could test it in a separate Tiller spreadsheet.

I’m using the main “Vanguard” connector. It never refreshes automatically like my other accounts. I need to visit https://my.tillerhq.com/ and hit the “Refresh” button. But when I do, it always works.

This is what I get 95% of the time when doing just that:

Just curious if you attempt refresh outside of these time limit windows?

I had no idea there were required operating hours for the Vanguard feed. :confounded:

This seems really weird to me that we can’t use our Tiller feeds during certain hours.

Again, my question is “are there any plans to make that more robust so that it’s more reliable?”

The limited access appears to be a Vanguard issue, not a Tiller issue. The times are ones that I imagine are popular transaction and trading hours on the Vanguard site, and I would guess they are trying to limit the number of pings that Yodlee and others make to their site during those hours. Might be worth a call to Vanguard to ask them, though it may be hard to find somebody who actually knows about the issue.

I didn’t see the hours of refreshing, but did notice that it usually works when the markets are closed. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been successful refreshing before I go to bed and on the weekend.

I’m glad someone started this, my Vanguard is having the same problems and it’s annoying. It never auto-updates, I’m guessing the time when it tries to do so is during the outages? But I can usually sync it manually outside those time ranges. Having said that, I tried adding the Vanguard Group (Quicken) account and it didn’t pull in all of the Vanguard accounts I have. It ignored some shared accounts and others.

@ecarl65 I’d recommend reaching out to our support team via the chat window in the lower right corner of the Console at https://my.tillerhq.com/ We can help troubleshoot those missing accounts.

It is a different error message if you try to refresh in the blocked out times versus when it just fails.

Thanks for highlighting that @kingsdotter
