I added a row in the Transactions spreadsheet tab but it did not show up on the Spending Trends tab. Then I added it through Add Transactions in the control panel and it was detected. Is this normal, that manually adding a row in the spreadsheet is not picked up by the system? It’s possible that when you first added it, it was not added inside the table range (Excel) or filter range (gSheets) that the rest of the templates are looking at for data. You’ll want to follow this guidance when adding data manually: Manually Add Data to Your Tiller Spreadsheet | Tiller Help Center
+1 to Darren’s question regarding starting a new spreadsheet — the last few years I’ve created a new one but not sure if that’s best practice It’s up to you! I prefer to start fresh every year because I like to tweak my categories and my expenses aren’t always to same year over year… Starting fresh each year can also help you prevent hitting any data limits and slowing your sheet down.

No, restore is only necessary if the template was accidentally broken. It would say something like “update” if the version is stale.
Does Tiller allow us to preassign money before the money is spent?

(more true to the original envelope accounting think)
Not really, you assign transactions to categoriesafter they are posted and have pulled into the sheet. You can budget for amounts you anticipate to spend, or you can manually add a transaction that you know will occur later - you’ll just want to remove the manually added transactions once the money is spent and the transaction is pulled into the sheet.
I use the Excel version and I don’t see the more space feature. Is that on Excel yet? That is only on Google Sheets
Is there an upper limit on the number of lines that a Google Sheets template can safely handle? On the Monthly Budget I have my credit card payments showing as a negative number. Usually this would be the case if you didn’t categorize the other side of the transfer to net things to $0. It can be, if the money is being saved it can be viewed as either an expense or just a transfer of money from one account to another. There’s no right or wrong way to view it, so if investments make better sense to you as expenses then that’s how you can catgegorize them.
